I am excited to share the publication of my middle grade novel ~
I have been asked what inspired me to write this book. Three of life's happenings nudged me.
~ the passing of a friend made me think about things I wanted to do "someday."
~ childhood memories of a great time in my life. (even if I didn't realize it then)
~ my muse, which kept putting characters and dialogues in my head.
A Muse can be a nagging thing!
Dedication ~
To grandkids everywhere who think their Gramps
is the "Sun" and "Moon."
But . . . especially to my father who taught me to fish,
and who would have taught his grandkids, too,
if he were able . . .
Some personal accomplishments are being published in:

Review by Cindy B:I had the privilege of meeting the author of this book,
Jean Lejcher, who, through her own experiences, compelled her to write this book.
My “Author’s” copy is signed, and I am excited to pass this book to my grandchildren.Saving Gramps is a story about a pre-teen boy, Toby, whose love for his gramps runs deep. Upon arriving at his grandparents’ cabin, where Toby has spent many summers, he notices a difference in his Gramp's behavior.
Gramps could not remember how to fish, canoe, or even make “loon” calls.
Toby and his friend, Cal, decide to help Gramps remember to do all the things he used to love.
But soon they realize it will not be an easy task, getting into trouble along the way.
Follow their adventures to “Saving Gramps” in this heart-warming and
“true to life” story of both sadness and joy that will be enjoyed by pre-teens and adults alike.
Courtnee Turner Hoyle, author of the award-winning Pale Woods Mystery Series,
shares her Readers' Favorite review:Jean Lejcher has written relatable characters that will stay in readers' hearts long after the last page.
Younger readers may sympathize with Toby as he tries to preserve his summer
and heal his grandfather's injury,
older readers will love the nostalgia of youthful summers and simpler pleasures. This book could be a good gift for a pre-teen whose older family member is diagnosed with dementia.
Even though Gramp's loss of cognition resulted from an injury,
the challenges and caregiving responsibilities between the two are similar. The story also contains a sense of adventure with "mousin'" as a distraction, storms, and a coyote attack.
Toby learns a valuable lesson as he selfishly tries to hold on to his summers with his grandparents
and adjusts to a new relationship with Gramps.Saving Gramps is a great selection for readers who enjoy coming-of-age stories with strong family values.
